Match Report |
Having claimed the toss due to Ashton not having eleven at the cut off point, Broadway 1st XI elected to bowl due to forecast rain. Nick Stewart(10-3-20-1) continued his early season form as Cooper fell to his first delivery. Patel(18) and Seal(8) attempted to rebuild before Seal - the former Birmingham League player - fell to Jason Horsburgh. At 72-4 Ashton looked in trouble but a patient partnership between Jason Glazier(41) and Turbo Turner(76) plus some late hitting from Jonathan Cooper(26 off 7balls) took Ashton to a very respectable 221 off there 45 overs. In reply Broadway got off to a poor start and at 28-3 with two Evans brothers and Andy Beale in the pavillion things were not looking good. However, the experienced Nigel Evans(42) who had moved up to open in the absence of Close and Clements, with the maturing Marcus Humpston (45) took the score to 110 before both fell quickly. The game was in the balance until Jamie Powell (81 off 49) at his destructive best took the game away from Ashton only to fall just before the end. Adam Smallman (16no) and Matt Phillips (2no) saw Broadway home with the rain falling. With another 19 points in the bag Broadway next visit Exhall for their third Cotswold Hills league match on Saturday 21st May.
