2012 season review

Posted by Nobody on 19 September 2012

2012 will go down as 1 of the worst cricket seasons in history. It started raining in April and never really stopped raining until August. However during the brief respite, some cricket was played...

After the double promotions of 2009, both clubs embarked on their 3rd seasons at a higher standard. The 1st XI now under the full time captaincy of Gary Evans hoped to match or improve on their 4th place finish of 2011, whilst the 2nd XI under the captaincy of Steve Wheeler were hopeful of mounting a strong promotion push.

Unfortunately due to the weather, no pre season friendlies were played, so the sides went it to their open league matches a little undercooked.

Saturday 5th May - 1sts away at Exhall & Wixford, 2nds at home to Alvechurch & Hopwood 3rd XI

Torrential rain all week, means that the 1st league matches are cancelled (standard), only 1 game in the whole of the Cotswold League takes place, at Long Itchington.

Saturday 12th May - 1sts at home to Bearley, 2nds away to Rowington 2nd XI

Both sides get off to a winning start. The 1st XI beat Bearley by 3 wickets. Andy Beale takes 5 for 26 as Bearley are all out for 136. Broadway knock this off for 7 wickets thanks to a fine unbeaten 62 by Jamie Powell (seeing off a fired up overseas player).
