Close announces retirement
Posted by Nobody on 6 June 2012
Experienced Batsman Chris Close has announced his immediate retirement, in a shock move today.
Close, who has appeared for the 1st XI twice this season (scoring 17 runs), has made the decision to spend more time with his young family, but hasn't ruled out making a comeback in the future.
Close began his career as an all-rounder around 20 years ago after progressing through the youth team. He has scored several thousand runs for the club, as well as taking more than 150 wickets.
His bowling began to fade away in 2004 and he concentrated on his role as a batsman. During the past few years, Close' availability has been reduced to family commitments, but he has continued to be a key player for the team.
Close also captained the club in the early 2000s, during what were some difficult times both on & off the pitch.
We wish him all the best for the future.
