End of season dinner a massive success

After much anticipation and much hard work by the organisers, Broadway CC's end of season dinner finally took place on Saturday 29th October.
In previous years the end of season awards night has been quite a low key affair, but a decision early in the year was made to try and formalise a bigger event this time & the result couldn't have been more successful.
The evening began - at Broadway Golf Club - with introductions by the clubs public speaker, Jamie Powell ! - then followed a beautiful three course meal, followed pre-recorded video presentations by the 2 Saturday Captains - Gary Evans & Steve Wheeler - reviewing their respective sides seasons & thanking the relevant people for their contributions over the season.
Guest speaker Graham Thorpe then presented the awards for 2nd team and 1st team player of the year. The winner for the 2nd team was Steve Wheeler (409 runs @ 40.90) & the winner of the 1st team player of the year was all-rounder Jamie Powell (306 runs @ 34.00 & 24 wickets @ 24.25). Club president Michael De Navarro then presented the Presidents Cup to Gary Evans for his fantastic all round efforts for the club over the 2011 season. Helping with juniors, captaining the 1st XI & Sunday XI - along with many other unnoticed roles. Finally the Chairmans Cup was presented by outgoing Chairman Martin Malin to Bill Bailey (** see below**)
Graham Thorpe then spoke at good length, recalling stories of his early England Career & mentioned several Cricketing anecdotes about famous ex & current players. A Question & Answer session was then held, with Thorpe fielding several ''varied'' questions from the audience.
Stand up Comedian Tony Cowards then followed Graham Thorpe on to the stage & produced several good 1-liner jokes to keep the crowd warmed up. His Badsey joke went down particularly well !!
A disco then followed & drinks began to flow - against a backdrop of tour photos from the clubs tour to Bournemouth in July.
A big thanks to Nick Stewart, Mark Evans & Nigel Evans for organising the showcase event. Hopefully following the success of the event, this will be a regular occurence in the future.
Congratulations to Bill Bailey on his award not only from the Broadway CC awards night, but for his lifetime achievement award from Natwest on behalf of the ECB. Bill's contribution to Broadway both Cricket & the Village has been outstanding over the years & the award is very well deserved.
