Long Itchington match report.

Broadway made it 2 wins out of 2 in the Cotswold Hills Premier Division with a 7 wicket victory over newcomers Long Itchington, despite several stoppages for rain.
With weather conditions such as these, the toss is always crucial in the Cotswold Hills League and home skipper Gary Evans won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bowl first, in a game reduced to 44 overs per side.
Just 2 overs were possible before the first weather interruption, however on resumption, the opening bowlers Adam Smallman and Jamie Powell both claimed an early wicket apiece with Powell having Eadon LBW and Smallman bowling Jack. A recovery of sorts was made between Jones and Perks who saw off the opening combination, before Jones was caught and bowled by James Cutler off his 1st delivery. A big partnership between Perks and Lowe then started to even the balance of power, as despite several plays and misses, and 2 more rain showers, the batsman grew in confidence and - Lowe in particular - played some good shots. The breakthrough came when Marcus Humpston dismissed Lowe, caught at mid-off by Gary Evans for 44. Cox soon fell for a duck caught by Cutler off Humpston, before Perks was caught behind by Gary Hawkins for 66 off Humpstons bowling. Humpston had his 4th wicket when Barry Clements took a regulation catch to dismiss Clarke. Powell then returned to bowl Franks and Wood, before a run out by Steve Wheeler at mid wicket finished the innings with Long Itchington having reached 169 off 36 overs - Powell finishing with 3 for 23, Humpston 4 for 17.
Further rain reductions meant Broadways target was reduced - and then further reduced still during the innings - to 115 from 38 overs. Clements hit a sweet cover drive, before nicking off to Wood for 4. Mark Evans hit 3 boundaries in his 15, before being dismissed in strange circumstances, losing grip of his bat, and being bowled. With the weather closing in, Marcus Humpston then took the bowling apart - in difficult bowling conditions - whilst Gary Evans rotated the strike. Evans was dismissed for 18, with 31 required, bringing the usuallly belligerent Powell to the crease. Powell hit his first ball for a huge straight six and soon followed up with another one. Broadway reached the target with 21 overs to spare with Humpston unbeaten on 51 off 24 balls (50 of those runs coming in boundaries) and Powell on 12 off 5 balls.
Broadway collected 19 points and the visitors 4.
In less good news the second XI suffered a heavy defeat at Rowington 2nd XI. With a huge player shortage, only 10 players were available, and being put into bat first Broadway could only muster 43 all out. Rowington knocked the target off in quick time, losing 2 wickets in the process, meaning Broadway did at least collect 1 point from their dissapointing afternoon.
The Sunday fixture at home to Great Rissington was cancelled without a ball being bowled. The players had arrived at the ground when the heavens opened, and with no immediate prospects of play the match was cancelled at 2:30pm.
