Opening day reports

Broadway suffered a disappointing start to the season, with both the 1st and 2nd team going down to defeats by relatively narrow margins.
With Barry Clements only able to play in the home fixture, Adam Smallman took over the captaincy of the 1st XI, with Clements captaining the 2nd XI.
The 1st XI batted at Exhall & Wixford and were dismissed for a slightly below par 173 with onlyMarcus Humpston (40), debutant Chioke Payne (34) and James Cutler (30) getting into double figures. There were two runs outs during the innings, including that of Humpston. Broadway were bowled out in the 41st over, giving Exhall an extra four overs to reach their target.
In reply Exhall reached the target for the loss of six wickets, with Carlo Carenza (9-2-27-2) the pick of the bowlers. Medium pacer Carenza has certainly thrived on the opportunity given to him in the 1st XI during the last few matches, having been predominantly seen as a 2nd XI player over the past few seasons. Stewart, Horsburgh, Payne and Powell were the other wicket takers, as Exhall reached their target in the 42nd over.

The 2nd XI also suffered defeat at home to Division five newcomers Stoneleigh. Stoneleigh batted first and reached 202, before being bowled out in the final over. Marston took 3 for 46 off his 10 overs, with Hawkins 2 for 26 off 10 overs, Burford 2 for 21 off 6.2 overs and Willett 2 for 42 off 9 overs providing good support. In reply Broadway were dismissed for 174 after a late batting collapse. Clements hinted at a return to form with 85, with Marston (41) offering the only real support. With the run-rate required escalating, the lower order were forced to sacrifice their wickets, and they fell 28 runs short.
