Preview 9th July

As the Cotswold Hills League season goes into its 2nd half, both Broadway CC Teams would have a school report of ''could do better'', but with plenty of time still left in the season, there is still opportunity for both sides to enjoy succesful campaigns.
The 1st XI started the season with back to back wins, this was followed by 4 consecutive defeats - against the Premier Divisions ''big four'' - and more recently the side are now undefeated in 3 games. With these results in mind, it could be argued that the club are exactly where they should be in the league table. However the feeling within the side is that the 4 defeats could easily have been avoidable.
The batting and bowling haven't always fired so far this season, but the batting with undoubtably be strengthened by the return of club captain Barry Clements following an injury which has kept him out all season so far. Clements was earmarked to make his return from his injury with an appearance for the 2nd XI, however the clubs hierarchy have decided that he is fit enough to return straight into the 1st XI. Whilst it is unsure what role Clements will play today, (Gary Evans is expected to keep the captaincy for this week), the return of a player of his calibre will no-doubt boost the side.
There are a few other changes to last weeks side as well. Nick Stewart, Gary Hawkins & Stu Clark are unavailable for a variety of reasons, but the side is boosted by the return of Nigel Evans, Adam Smallman & Jason Horsburgh.
The 2nd XI have also endured a mixed season so far, winning 4 and losing 5 of their 9 matches so far. The highlight of the season though was undoubtably the, against the odds, 4 wicket victory over todays opponents Long Itchington.
Whilst the 1st XI batting & bowling hasn't quite fired this season, it can be mainly said for the 2nd XI that the batting has been the problem so far. A mid-table finish is probably realistic (& the club won't want a repeat of last years relegation struggle) - although the fact that in the 5 defeats the side was never totally outclassed, means that captain Steve Wheeler is quietly confident that a late season promotion push is not out of the equation.
After a depleted XI managed to pull of a remarkable victory last week, the return of key batsman Warren Marston & Jimmy Martin along with Frank Carenza & opening pace bowler Josh Burford, should bring more confidence today, captain Wheeler will warn against complacency against 1 of the divisions stronger sides.
The 1st XI are away at Tanworth & Camp Hill
The 2nd XI are at home to Long Itchington
