Weekend review

Broadway suffered a third consecutive defeat and slipped into relegation trouble following a comprehensive seven wicket defeat to Wellesbourne.
In Marcus Humpston's first match as captain he decided to bat first on winning the toss, and - after the early loss of Steve Wheeler - Broadway got off to quick start thanks to Barry Clements and Matt Phillips, reaching 98 for one at drinks. Once Phillips fell for 49, a now typical Broadway collapse followed: Clements reached another 50, but the last 8 wickets fell for 23, as Broadway collapsed from 110 for two to 133 all out.
In reply Wellesbourne looked set for a 10 wicket victory, reaching 100 without loss. Three late wickets clawed back a tiny bit of respectability, as well as another bonus point, but in truth this was another comprehensive defeat. Broadway collected just three points, and remain second from bottom in the division.
A depleted second team (with just nine players) put up a brave performance but ultimately lost by five wickets to Inkberrow. Broadway batted first and scored a respectable 218 all out, with Warren Marston scoring 87. Inkberrow chased this down in the 43rd over with five wickets remaining. Having another two players would've made a huge difference. Broadway collected seven points, but slipped into the relegation zone following this result.
On Sunday Broadway lost the annual fixture against Michael De Navarro's presidents XI. The presidents XI scored 261 off their 40 overs, with contributions from both Neil and Luke Radford. Ollie Timperley, aged 13, bowled an impressive spell and dismissed ex England internatioanl Neil Radford. Broadway score 180 in reply with James Hands top scoring.
Having 20 players available for both teams is a huge struggle, every week so far we have struggled for numbers and it has taken some sterling work by certain people (they know who they are) to ensure that we fulfil the fixtures. We hope this situation improves as the year goes on, and that we all as playing members pull together and become available for selection as much as possible so that we can fulfil all our fixtures and become a competitive side again. It's not much fun playing when you are losing heavily every week due to player shortages.
